The Langtang Tibetan Heritage Museum
Shortly before the 2015 Nepal earthquake members of HEART were finishing off a fieldwork season in the village of Langtang. The team had been in discussion with local community members about designing and building a Tibetan Heritage Museum in the village as a storehouse of their local culture, educational resource for the new school, and a sustainable source of tourist revenue. Two hours after HEART departed the village of Langtang the earthquake struck, burying the tiny village and most of its inhabitants under tonnes of ice and mud. HEART is fundraising to fulfill the team's committment to the village, and build a heritage museum to help protect what has become a fragile local culture. The museum is in the design phases, but will be populated by a rich archive of photographs, oral histories, folklore and archaeology, collected with the community over several years of field collaboration.
